Q: My mother purchased a house in my name, using all of her own money. It was for rental income purposes. She benefitted from the rental income. However, it was in my name so that upon her passing it is mine automatically. She then sold house and I have the money in my bank account. She wishes to buy another rental property with the funds and continue to receive the income for herself.**
Until this happens, is my mother liable for the Zakat or am I?

A: Whoever currently owns the money will pay Zakat on the money. So that needs to be clarified between yourself and your mother as to who owns the money in the account.

And Allah knows best!
